"The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear" Walter Moers
Bluebear doesn't know how he was born. He only knows that the minipirates found him floating on the ocean in a nut shell. And this was how his first life began. Each life is an adventure and ends with him usually escaping some sort of danger. After the minipirates he was almost eaten by an island, went to school, lived in a Tornado, became famous in Atlantic City and many more.
I loved every minute of this book. Each chapter in the bears life was highly imaginative and I spent most of the time reading it wondering what was coming next. The book is filled with lovely illustrations which fit in so well with the book. It's also very funny and I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times. It's told in the first person which is difficult to pull off but this book manages it. As I said before if you like the surreal you will like this.
