Brock Peters (1927 - 2005)

Brock Peters dies this week at the age of 78 after suffering from cancer. Most people will probably know him from the classic film "To Kill A Mockingbird". He played Tom Robinson, the character who was accused of rape. My fellow geeks will also know him from his Star Trek Roles. He played Admiral Cartright in Voyage Home and Undiscovered Country. Later he played Captain Sisko's father, Joseph, in DS9. I have enjoyed all of these roles and sadly didn't realise that this Star Trek actor was also the Mockingbird actor.

The year after "To Kill A Mockingbird", Brock Peters featured in a Peter Sellars Ealing comedy called "Heaven's Above!" which also happened to feature one William Hartnell in the year he took his most famous role! The film couldn't have been more appropriately titled in that respect!!

Featuring both Peters and Hartnell, it also makes for one of those nice little connections, which only fans seem to notice, between the worlds of "Dr. Who" & "Star Trek"! It's like Billie Piper's new film "Spirit Trap". It also features Sam Troughton but no one has made the connection that the Doctor's companion's love interest is the Doctor's grandson!!
